During calls, call-handlers must give this privacy notice in case a caller is going to disclose or discuss any high-alert issues.  This includes but is not limited to: a caller being a danger to oneself or others, Title IX issues, or abuse of a minor.

 

“I wanted to let you know that there are some instances in which I will need to share what we talk about with my supervisor.

The only situations where I will need to do that are in a case of child abuse, in cases of gender-based violence – like sexual assault – of if I think yours or someone else’s safety is at risk.

You can tell me as much or as little as you choose.  I will only report what you tell me so if you would like you can leave out things like people’s names or specific places.

I’m not going to tell my friends, family or anyone else who doesn’t need to know.”

 

Call-handlers are to say this phrase exactly as it is written here- they are not to make substitutions or approximations in order to ensure the callers understanding of what a private resource is and that we are not a confidential resource.  Additionally, call-handlers are to be sure to mention which resources on campus are confidential (Ombudsman, the Counseling Center, etc.) to the caller should they not want to disclose specific information to us.
