Support. Empathy. Empowerment. Kindness.
(previously the High Hopes Helpline)
the history of us
As of this semester, what used to be the High Hopes Helpline is now known as S.E.E.K., which stands for Support, Empathy, Empowerment, and Kindness. We act as a student-run helpline for Binghamton University students to call from 8-11pm every night the dorms are open. We also offer an internship to train students and help provide them with the skills necessary to effectively answer the calls that come to the helpline. We also provide presentations on a variety of topics and are hoping to expand our services to include a text-to-chat and peer-to-peer support.

The High Hopes Helpline was originally an in person resource established in the 1970s. While the resource still had a phone line, its predominant use at the time was a safe place for people to ‘come down’ from acid trips. In 2012, High Hopes was relaunched as a crisis call center and a hotline that was open 24/7 and available to both the campus and community of Binghamton. Due to a lack of oversight, the resource was shut down in 2013. After careful reorganization the High Hopes Helpline was relaunched February 1st, 2016. This time the helpline was created through a partnership with the Student Association and the University Counseling Center and has been expanding ever since.
